About Rotring
Functionality and technical excellence make Rotring utensils a symbol of quality and precision.
Here is a brief history of the Rotring brand.
- The Rotring brand began in 1928. It was then that the world's first pen called "Tiku" was created, with an absolutely innovative needle tip.
- 1932 marks the year Rotring began exporting its invention to as many as 34 countries!
- In 1935, Rotring created the world's first multi-functional pen - the great-grandson of today's multipens. It was the first product to combine the function of a pencil and two coloured pens.
- 1953 saw the invention of Rotring's best-known product, the rapidograph. The technology of its manufacture sidelined the traditional nib and to this day remains the best tool for technical drawing. It wasn't long before Rotring came up with a way to quickly refill the ink in their inkographs.
- In 1965, the characteristic red rim became the Rotring company logo.
- 1970 brought a unique convenience for all inkjet users. Rotring has patented its soft and comfortable grip, which prevents the hand from tiring during prolonged writing. In the years that followed, further Rotring branches were established in Europe: in Switzerland, Belgium and Great Britain.
- A new type of drawing board was developed by Rotring in Germany in 1976 and immediately became popular with engineers and architects. 3 years later, another cult Rotring product was launched: the Tikky automatic pencils. Particularly pleasing were the extra-thin graphites and the ergonomically corrugated grip surface. The new automatic pencils have finally provided the necessary technical writing precision.
- In 1983, Rotring invented a simple and clean way to refill the ink in their rapidographs - capillary cartridges. A few years later, the ArtPen, a calligraphic fountain pen designed mainly for artists, is becoming increasingly popular. Tikky III is the next generation of pencils and ballpoint pens that won the appreciation of customers at the beginning of the 21st century.
- In 2010 an extension to the Rotring Rapidograph range was created - the PRO version. It uses an innovative pressure method and a special spring system.
- Since 2020, Rotring has been rapidly expanding its plastic and metal precision automatic pencil lines. New to the Rotring range are gel products.
- Today, the Rotring brand is the best choice for everyone involved in technical drawing, drafting and artistic drawing.
